How often do we get to hear a story like this? A couple of young community volunteers get together for a common cause, and fall in love. As this fairytale happened in the so called “Singles’ Desert” town, Seattle, this I have to report.

Jessie Zhou, a former journalist and now internet marketing manager, volunteers her time for Wokai Seattle Chapter. Brady volunteers for Sierra Club. I met Jessie and Brady at the Seattle Chapter launch event. Later Jessie and I became involved with Wokai in various committees. Their love story makes me hopeful for nerdy singles in Seattle. In their own words (www.weddingwire.com/jessidy):

How We Met
We met at a social event for Wokai, a non-profit organization Jessie volunteers for in her spare time. We found out we both worked for Amazon.com at the time and knew a few people in common, but we didn't take it further. Of course, we both have our own versions why it didn't go further. Brady's - "I sent her an email, but the response was lukewarm, so..." Jessie's - "I replied, hoping he would follow up, but..."

It was only months later when we met again at another Wokai event - this time a happy hour, with a much smaller group - that sparks of attraction started to turn into something more substantial. Jessie added Brady on her Facebook, then one thing just led to another...

How We Got Engaged
Brady proposed during our recent trip to China. It was an unusually warm and sunny winter day. We were taking a walk on the ancient city wall of Nanjing, Jessie's hometown. Just at the end of the walk, Brady, in his most calm manner, popped the question. Wait, "it wasn't even the right question!" screamed Jessie. She said "yes" nevertheless.

This is the picture they posted for the story:

Oh, they got married on August 15, 2010. Congratulations from the Wokai community!
