My Story

I lived in China from 2006 - 2008, teaching English at universities in Chengdu and Beijing. I returned to the US for graduate studies and now live in Arlington, VA. My interest in rural development stems in part from growing up in rural Maine, and later working in rural Tanzania as a Peace Corps Volunteer.

Why I Give

I feel a personal connection to China, having lived there for two years. I am curious to see microfinance in action and hope to be a small part of someone's success story.

We have the grass fodder to confidently rear our cattle -- This year, I borrowed 4,000 RMB to have hay sent in from out of town. Now, my cows have enough grass fodder to sustain them through the winter.

I continue to need the help of a microloan -- This year, just after the new year, our sheep bore little lambs. The grass I bought last spring is gone, and I need capital to invest in my animal-rearing venture. I need to buy more fodder. Therefore, I'd like the help of a microloan!

What we herders are afraid most is snow blizzard -- This year, I borrowed 4,000 RMB from Wokai to build a new greenhouse. It means we won't have to worry so much about bad weather and snow storms this year. To tell you the truth, what we herders fear the most are the winter snows.
